The headline and article reflect a peculiar ecclesiology. "'The Church' is the People that God gathers in the whole world. She exists in local communities and is made real as a liturgical, above all a Eucharistic, assembly." (Catechism ΒΆ 752.) But the article and story equate "Church" with the ecclesiastical hierarchy. This equation privileges the aspects of the Church described in Chapter III of Lumen Gentium over those aspects of the Church described in Chapter II.
