I couldn't agree more with the author of the article, especially his conclusion that the Vatican’s deferential treatment of Mugabe "has been the polar opposite of the courage shown by local Catholic officials." What are those courageous Catholics in-country supposed to think when the Vatican rewards Mugabe for his despicable behavior? Mugabe and his henchman have terrorized the populace and have ruined the economy, which was hyperinflated for a five-year period and which even included the printing of a note for 100 billion units of currency. The hyperinflation would have continued past 2009 except that Mugabe and his party abolished the currency and have yet to repalce it with another currency. At a minimum, it was very bad PR by the Vatican to include Mugabe among the official guests for the beatification.
