Human dignity and Private Manning

Is there any justification for the conditions under which the Obama administration is holding Private Manning (the WikiLeaks soldier)?

No, but apparently a lot of the sympathy and agitation for more humane treatment is coming from people who consider him to be some kind of hero. It is undoubtedly the case that tens of thousands of unnamed prisoners in the United States are living under worse conditions than Manning. I think the way he is being treated is more petty and vindictive than cruel and unusual. It doesn't reflect well on the military or the government, but he's not being waterboarded, and unless there has been some major mistake in identifying him as the culprit in the Wikileaks affair (which I doubt), be belongs behind bars.
