Well said by Ross Douthat

Here:  "This is the paradox of America’s unborn.  No life is so desperately sought after, so hungrily desired, so carefully nurtured. And yet no life is so legally unprotected, and so frequently destroyed."

This is another quote you should have highlighted: “Their televised agony was a case study in how abortion can simultaneously seem like a moral wrong and the only possible solution — because it promised to keep them out of poverty, and to let them give their first daughter opportunities they never had.”

It is true that “No life is so desperately sought after, so hungrily desired, so carefully nurtured. And yet no life is so legally unprotected, and so frequently destroyed.” ... and as soon as it is born, many who oppose abortion regard the newborn as an extravagance who's care and nurturing is not a matter of public interest. If the new-born was regarded as sacred as the pre-born, would any mother have to make the ghastly choice between the welfare of one child and the life of another?
