by Rev. Robert John Araujo, S.J., Loyola's John Courtney Murray, S.J. University Chair Political debate in America today is often characterized by exchanges of loud or angry words. Reasoned discourse is often absent, and it seems an artifact relegated to the days of a nobler past. But should this be so? John Courtney Murray argued why reasoned and civil debate are essential to the American experiment and republican democracy. The meaning of his statement, "Civility dies with the death of dialogue," will be explored in detail. 5 PM · RSVP |
