Is the public square becoming more welcoming?

A new survey shows that believers and nonbelievers alike support religious expression by students in public schools.

From the Article: "Three-quarters of Americans support student religious speech at public school events. A slight majority (52 percent) of those who don't practice religion think such expression is appropriate."

I'd like to see the polling questions, because the last sentence misstates the issue: is such expression PERMISSIBLE? "Appropriate" is a different concept; I suspect a larger percentage of non-practicing Americans would think they were permissible. It is manifestly odd that the First Amendment would protect free exercise of religion, and free expression, but not free expression of religious speech!
