Society for the Study of Cardinal Newman

A thoughtful and proactive MoJ reader has launched a website for the Society for the Study of Cardinal Newman.  Here is the reader's explanation of the site's mission:

Recent statements from a group operating under the name of the 'Cardinal Newman Society' may have led some people to make incorrect inferences about what Cardinal Newman himself said and did during his life.   The Society for the Study of Cardinal Newman has dedicated its web-presence to providing information on some of Cardinal Newman's views regarding the nature of the university, the role of conscience, the development of doctrine, etc.  While no web-site or society can do justice to the full scope and complexity of Newman's thought, perhaps an internet 'snapshot' of some of Newman's views might at least help to begin educating the wider public about what Newman actually said.

And from the site itself:

Please note that we are not in any way affiliated with another group, operating under the title of 'The Cardinal Newman Society' and aimed at 'renewing and strengthening Catholic identity' at American Catholic universities and colleges. Unlike the Cardinal Newman Society, the Society for the Study of Cardinal Newman does not 'monitor' speeches, events, performances, or classroom activities at American Catholic colleges and universities; it does not campaign for or against any political candidate or cause; it does not solicit or accept monetary contributions from any persons or corporations; and it does not employ any salaried officers or staff members. The aim of the Society for the Study of Cardinal Newman is simply to promote thoughtful dialogue and genuine understanding regarding the life, work, and legacy of John Cardinal Newman himself.  In the spirit of Newman's Idea of a University, one might say that we are committed to pursuing the truth about Newman's life, work, and legacy for its own sake.
