More on the UNFPA
My follow up to the posting by Rob and Rick on the UNFPA will be brief and empirical. I was intrigued by Mr. Kristof's portrayal of UNFPA. I must confess that I saw a very different organization at work in my 8 years experience at the UN. If the UNFPA directed its advocacy efforts and its in situ projects on basic health care concerns for the world's neediest rather than on "gender" issues of "reproductive health rights and services", the world, especially mothers and children, would be a lot better off than they are. And so would many future members of the human family who sadly and tragically will not see the light of day because of this organization's activities, which are in desperate need of reformation.
